  • Abstract
Summary form only given. An intense ion beam is being developed for materials processing research. The authors have developed a new type of imaged calorimeter to infer beam energy density, and performed Thomson parabola spectrometer measurements to determine beam composition and particle energy distributions. A complete beam and energy distribution is measured on each shot by viewing a thin Ti beam stop with an infrared camera. The technique has been applied to investigating changes in the beam energy profile due to variations in applied magnetic field, anode material type, anode-to-cathode gap spacing, and anode geometry.
