    Cutting stock is concerned with how to saving material, optimize resources in product designing, manufacturing. It is very complicated and difficult in computing theory, but it has got the extensive application in the actual manufacture. In allusion to the actual characteristics of the genetic algorithm which is applied in the problem of the optimization in rectangular pieces of material, this paper puts forward a new object-oriented genetic encoding and the genetic variation method based on “linking raw material”. They can reduce the number of gene mutation which is nonzero; it proposes the corresponding design methods on the fitness function, initial population generation and genetic manipulation and some key issues, and draws the feasible conclusions. The instance of this algorithm shows that it can solve the stock cutting optimization of rectangular material more quickly and efficiently.
