Abstract :
The quality of power supply can influence the reliability of capacitors for power factor compensation PFC [1]. In addition to the power parameters, the operating temperature plays a decisive role. The aluminum capacitors are the most reliability critical components from PFC-equipment. In order to improve the design and achieve an optimal operation, the main parameters of the capacitor bank have been recorded. The paper attempts to draw some conclusions regarding the reliability and power quality which influences the life of capacitors in PFC systems. This work describes a model for failure development by analyzing the degradation mechanism and the performance characteristics of capacitors. Final section presents conclusions derived from observations made during the service life of the compensation unit.
