Abstract
Summary form only given. We study the microscopic basis of the linear dispersion. Our model is the quantized version of the classical Drude-Lorentz single-electron oscillator model, in a linearized continuum limit. The present approach uses the multipolar gauge, which eliminates complications due to Coulomb interactions and contact (A2) terms. While these effects can be included in minimal coupling theories, they result in considerable complexity.
