Abstract :
In this paper we discuss main characteristics and challenges of ICs for optical communications. The design methodology, and necessary CAD tools are presented. A 60 Gbit/s MUX and 40 Gbit/s D-type flip-flop (DFF) realised in InP DHBT technology are given as examples.
