  • Abstract
Any remote monitoring system is only as good as the people who use it. Is this the whole story or does it place too much responsibility on the user, who is frequently the one at the sharp end of every new scheme and system that comes along, promising to make their lives easier, while in reality it is quietly disregarded and falls into disuse? This paper will discuss the human and technical factors that should be addressed to ensure a system will be implemented successfully. It will draw on the examples of key Asset installations, personal experience of the author and elements of research drawn from other industries and countries.
