Abstract :
This paper proposes an adaptive auto-reclose scheme for high voltage transmission lines. It presents application of wavelet transform in identification of transient and permanent faults by processing the fault generated high frequency voltage transients. It can also be utilised to determine adaptive reclosure time with capturing arc extinction time. A nonlinear time dependent dynamic resistance representation of the primary and secondary arcs is developed as well. Performance of the proposed method is validated by some simulation studies. Some simulations are carried out on a typical 400 kV circuit for various system and fault conditions and obtained results are presented in the paper
