Abstract
Illustrates an innovative signal processing technique for reconstructing transient currents flowing in parallel conductors from magnetic field data collected in the space surrounding the conductors. The technique is based on the boundary element method for calculation of magnetic fields and takes into account eddy current phenomena. Novel current sensor devices can be fabricated following the proposed principle. Since the discretized formulation of the electromagnetic model gives rise to simple computations it can be implemented in real time by a DSP at low cost. The technique can be applied for measuring fault transient currents in systems protection devices
