Abstract
3D sensor system for real time tracking has been developed and implemented. The 3D sensor system is based on Fiber Grating and an image-processing module. The system works by projecting a two-dimensional matrix of laser spots generated through the fiber gratings and projected on the front plane within the active view of the vision sensor. The reflected laser spots from the scene have direct relation in tracking targets. The system encodes the space coarsely by using a limited number of laser spots and this has the advantage of reducing significantly the computation time that is required for real time tracking. In this paper the structure of the system, operational principles of the sensor system and its performance are illustrated through experimental results.
