  • Abstract
Pressure, flow and volume characteristics of the lung were measured using a body plethysmograph. The body plethymograph is a large airtight box used to measure thoracic gas volume and airway resistance. Using a volume displacement body plethysmograph, with rebreathing bag to minimize thermal exchange between lung and plethysmograph air, alveolar pressures were measured over a wide range of airflow rates and lung volumes. To collect isovolume pressure versus flow curves, software was custom designed. The results provide information concerning the mechanics of the respiratory system for use with the airflow perturbation device
