Abstract
In this paper, the use of companding as an effective tool for minimizing the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of OFDM signals is presented. The influence of in-band and out-of band noise due to sampling and compression is considered. The bit-error-rate (BER) performance for different companding profiles is also evaluated for transmissions within an AWGN channel. The improvement on BER performance and PAPR is studied for various companding profiles and is compared with the performance due to clipping within the OFDM transmissions
