Abstract
Metrics identified in the late 1980´s are shaping and driving change in design environments today. Each year the water lowers. New metrics are developed as old ones become obsolete. As progress continues, measures and metrics migrate from focusing on the back-end [results] to measuring the front-end [planning and definition]. The earlier, the more predictive. Maturity is reached when the very beginning of an activity can be metricized. Again, as with manufacturing, process monitoring will become process control and ultimately statistical process control. The implications for product development metrics are enormous
