Vicissitudes of traditional settlement landscape of Wuzhen in modern commercial development

Protection and development of traditional Chinese settlement landscape is a topic attracting much attention in progress of modern urbanization. The reconstruction and development mode of Wuzhen represents a development direction of traditional settlement landscape in modern society. The most important feature of Wuzhen mode is that it retains the characteristics of traditional landscape and converts them into sources for modern commercial development. This paper describes the characteristics of traditional settlement landscape of Wuzhen in the following aspects: overall layout, primitive living space, riverside view etc. It also observes heritage and transformation of such characteristics in modern commercial development process. It is hoped to obtain some hints from analysis of this mode which may be conductive to transformation of traditional settlement landscapes of our country.
