Abstract :
A tutoring program for minorities, in which the undergraduate members of the National Society of Black Engineers participated, is presented. Both anecdotal and survey information is presented to encourage duplication of the program in other communities. A local program, centered in dominantly black churches, reached across several communities. The program was duplicated in other areas of Louisiana, USA. Financial support from some local industries (Texas Eastman, Cleco), Sigma Xi, and other interested groups, encouraged by governmental advocates, were instrumental in its success.
