Abstract
As a mean to help a driver change lanes safely on the highway, a system capable of detecting other vehicles either behind or to the side of the driver´s car is required to prevent collision with vehicles arriving from behind in neighboring lanes. The sideways-looking radar system is very useful, particularly when vehicles are travelling on a multi-lane highway. This paper presents an efficient, accurate and easy to implement system for a sideways-looking radar signal processing. The system is designed to work with a spread spectrum signal. Results on the measurement of the distance to and the velocity of a moving vehicle are presented.
