Abstract
High Frequency radar, which is based on surface wave propagation, is an important tool to remotely measure sea state. It can also be used to detect targets far beyond the conventional microwave radar coverage. The goal of our project is to investigate this detection capability. In this way, the received power by the system in presence of targets has been modeled leading to a Range-Doppler image. This model can be used for different purpose like, for example, the (theoretical) evaluation of target detection algorithms. In this contribution, a multiscale source extraction method is also proposed as a detection technique and some first results illustrate its capabilities.
