Abstract :
Optical burst switching (OBS) has recently been subject to increased interest since, given the state-of-the-art technology, it appears to be the most attractive technique for meeting transparency and bandwidth on demand requirements in high capacity, backbone optical networks. In this study a Monte Carlo based model is developed for calculating the overall burst drop probability performance of JIT protocol in OBS networks under fairly realistic conditions. Our simulation results indicate that the advantages gained in using OBS become more pronounced as the channel occupation ratio decreases.
