  • Abstract
This paper presents two novel algorithms, the distance comparison algorithm and the stroke analysis algorithm, which try to combine two consecutive raster-based 2-D strokes into one vector-based 2-D curve which can be used then to form a 3-D surface. The data is obtained from digital sketching. Each stroke contains several sequential 2-D points which can be used as the control points or nodes in the stroke. However, the data in the different strokes belongs to the different data spaces. The combination of two strokes is to connect the data from the different data spaces into one data space with a new sequence of all the original points. The methods give a feasible way to join many strokes during sketching in the conceptual design stage of automotive styling.
