Abstract
We report experimental observation of transverse optical pattern distribution and its evolution in photonic-crystal-structured VCSELs by using near-field scanning optical microscope. With fixed driving current but different distances above the emitting surface of the cavity, self-propelled soliton-like cavity patterns are demonstrated.
