Abstract :
A compact MMI-based polarization splitter is designed using SOI channel waveguides. Even though silicon does not have any material birefringence, the slab-like geometry of MMI makes it possible to induce significant birefringence which allows to achieve polarization splitting with a suitable design. In this work, we demonstrate the polarization splitting in an SOI waveguide device as short as 100 mum designed by utilization of BPM technique.
