Abstract :
Dedicated tools are often preferred by device designers because they fit their every day´s needs and use the specific technical vocabulary, with a low level of complexity. Considering a general simulation software with its command language, our goal was to find out a development process to transform this general software into a dedicated tool, easily maintainable, reusable and extensible. Our approach is based on a UML (unified modeling language) description of the dedicated tool and its implementation in the command language of the general software. This article illustrates our method with the example of a dedicated tool we developed for the preprocessing of brushless permanent magnet (BPM) motors. The dedicated software handles the general parameters of the motor and builds its geometry, winding and mesh automatically
