Abstract :
The single-phase switched reluctance motor (SRM) has several stator poles but there are excited by single-phase current at the same time. The positive torque is only generated in the positive slope of inductance variation. So the torque ripple is heavier than multi-phase SRM and it can not be started by itself if it is not placed at the positive slope of inductance variation before the start. This paper describes the design of the starting device which is composed of permanent magnet. Equation of the required magnetic force is derived from equation of rotational motion. The required variables of the equation are measured by making an experiment with the prototype. From the equation and experiments, the required magnetic force of the starting device is calculated. The position and direction of the starting device are also confirmed by the FEM analysis
