Abstract
The paper relates to the channel coding and transmission of the coded signals over bandlimited channels in the presence of additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN). The authors demonstrate a way for designing modulational codes with a sampling receiver with limited complexity. Combining multi-amplitude and multi dimensional systems into a digital communication system having both good power efficiency and good spectral efficiency is described. Advantages and simple hardware results of a modulation scheme, called 4A8DS (4-amplitudes, 8-dimensional signaling), in comparison with the 64-QAM scheme is demonstrated. A coding gain of 4.3 dB at Eb/N0=10-4 with spectral efficiency of 5 bit/s/Hz is obtained
