Abstract :
Summary form only given. We describe the performance of S-band dispersion-compensating discrete Raman amplifiers (SRAs), both in terms of stand-alone parameters as well as in a transmission system at 10.6 Gb/s. The amplifier exhibits a wide dynamic range of flat-gain operation with minimal variation of noise figure. When used in a transmission system the amplifier does not contribute nonlinear penalties due to cross-phase modulation or four wave mixing
