Abstract :
The simulation of slowly varying magnetic fields with finite elements is investigated. While time step adaptivity and spatial mesh adaptivity alone are well established techniques, we present a combination with a time evolving mesh that assures the fineness of the mesh due to evolving and disappearing local saturation effects and eddy current layers. Given an initial mesh a hierarchical mesh is constructed by subdividing an element into congruent elements. First numerical results are presented for a magnetic field problem
