Abstract
This paper proposes a novel type of survivable network with embedded rings, called the embedded-rings-based network, and focuses on its two basic types, ring-tree network and ring-ring network. We analyze the capability of failure tolerance of both ring-tree and ring-ring network and their reliability of communication. Finally we use an example to compare the tree, ring-tree, ring-ring network respectively in two aspects above. Based on these discussions, we conclude that both ring-tree and ring-ring network not only are a type of survivable network but also hold an underlying simple topology which leads to their ease of network administration. This implies that they can serve as a good candidate for an industrial computer or communication network.
