Abstract :
The popularity of the Internet and its related services continues to be one of the main reasons for the explosive growth of traffic volume in global information and telecommunications networks. This trend of data-centric traffic growth, emerging new requirements and the need of network operators to reduce investments and operational costs (capital expenditure and operational expenditure) represent some of the driving forces behind the need for current transport networks to evolve. In this paper, the innovative concept and scheme for multiple connections per a call is presented. Optical backbone networks will need to migrate from current time-division multiplexed networks, designed mainly for voice and leased-line services, towards a more dynamic and flexible optical infrastructure in order to enable the transportation of larger channels of voice, data, and video. In optical network, a call request can trigger multiple connections and these connections may complete one signaling flow. Based on this concept, the novel mechanism of connections divided and routed successfully. Experimental results show that the multiple connections per a call have less connection setup time, and network traffic is better than one connection per a call. The new connection mechanism is efficient in optical network.
