Gigabit Electronics

Intended as an introductory survey, the paper at first points out the pertinent applications of gigabit/s techniques. This is followed by a description the general circuit design philosophy when dealing with gigabit information rates and of the man problems encountered. Finally, the present status is assessed in the realization of the fast switching process as the fundamental circuit function.
