Abstract
The 11 GHz band is getting popularity for communications via satellite. A new uncooled parametric amplifier has therefore been designed in this frequency range to cover the operational needs of commercial traffic (Intelsat V satellites) as well as those of specific communication experiments in the 11/ 14 GHz bands related to OTS (Orbital Test Satellite, ESA) ECS (European Communication Satellite, ESA) and SIRIO (Italian Satellite for Propagation and Communication tests). The paper is a comprehensive description of the 11 GHz parametric amplifier developed by GTE-Telecomunicazioni, from the view point of its characteristics and of the design philosophy.
