Abstract :
This paper covers the current standardized 10G PON systems: XG-PON1 from ITU (G.987) and 10G EPON from IEEE (802.3av) as well as progress towards longer reach and higher capacities. The emerging WDM-PON technology variants and their characteristics are outlined. Finally, the evolution of PON network management is discussed in detail.
