Abstract
A brief overview is given of the various optically controllable directional coupling structures in image guide technology published so far as are beam-splitter-type couplers, parallel guide couplers and aperture couplers. Measurement results at W-band are compared and discussed with respect to the inherent limitations of each structure. Theoretical results are presented for the impact of the optical control on the coupling parameter of a device scaled for SubMMW applications.
