Abstract :
Firstly, this paper introduces Realistic-Abstract Continuum, Knowledge Visualization, Periodic Table of Visualization Methods, the Four-Part Model of Representation, and Discussion on the Integration of Visual Theories by the Humankind´s Hierarchical Communication Model. Secondly, this paper incorporates compound Realistic-Abstract Continuum (including the relationship between the sign and the object, knowledge visualization, visualization methods, visual theories)on the axis of representation in the Four-Part Model of Representation into the Humankind´s Hierarchical Communication Model to construct a framework of the Layered Grammar for Visualization. Therefore this framework creates a theoretical synthesis that would be useful to anyone studying pictures and how they represent, and improve our understanding of pictorial representation.
