Abstract
Three criteria are used to determine the form and content of a proposed audiovisual document containing videotaped walkthroughs: (1) walkthroughs should be structural behavioral; (2) the maintenance programmer should be able to relate new knowledge to existing knowledge; and (3) the walkthroughs should allow the maintenance programmer to learn by example. The audiovisual document is developed by choosing sample tasks from the problem domain and verbally presenting, for each task, three interrelated walks through the program, chosen so that the maintenance programmer is systematically guided into the internals of the program. The form and content of an audiovisual document is demonstrated using an example
