Abstract
Architectures for smart homes address nearly all requirements for Ambient Assisted Living (AAL). The present paper discusses the missing requirements to support daily life situations of elderly people. Therefore, we introduce metrics to evaluate smart home architectures for AAL. Furthermore, we will elaborate extensions to Persona, the most advanced architecture approach of our investigation. The goal of this research is to present an architecture that meets all requirements including those which were identified as missing or have not been taken into account completely. In addition to that, the authors looked at the scalability of state-of-the-art smart home architectures to provide an architectural design that fits the needs of the mass market as well as large scale implementations.
