Abstract :
For the first time, the dielectric resonator (DR) is simultaneously used as a radiating and filtering device, named as the DRA filter (DRAF). The proposed DRAF is experimentally demonstrated using a disk-loaded cylindrical DR, where the metallic disk is used to improve the insertion loss of the filter part of the DRAF, without affecting much the radiation efficiency of the antenna part. The return loss, input impedance, radiation patterns, antenna gain, coupling, and insertion loss of the DRAF are studied. It was found that the antenna and filter parts of the DRAF can be designed and tuned almost independently. Since the proposed DRAF is compact and multifunctional, it is very useful to modern communication systems.
