Abstract
A computer simulation program was developed to analyze fly-ash particle motion and calculate its migration velocity. The program introduces a parameter called tuft density Rpi to calculate particle motion under negative DC charging. The value of Rpi depends on the ion current distribution in the electrostatic precipitator. Particle trajectories are observed using a visualization technique. Calculated migration velocities of fly-ash particles in the particle diameter range from 50 mu m to 0.001 mu m are reported. Good agreement between the computed and observed particle trajectories and calculated migration velocities are observed.<>
