Abstract
Developed toner mass in digital halftone images was calculated carried out using two kinds of development models, a simple neutralization model and a multilayer neutralization model, both based on the principle of latent electric field neutralization by toner charge. For comparison with theory the authors developed latent images of 16-level halftone gray-scale patterns formed by 240 SPI 4*4 dots using single-component nonmagnetic gap development. Excellent agreement with experimental results for toner pile height and halftone gray-scale curves were obtained for both models. It is noted that the simple neutralization model is not satisfactory, notwithstanding its excellent agreement with experimental results, because it includes an adjustable parameter. The multilayer neutralization model, which does not have adjustable parameters, succeeded in predicting developed toner pile height on the photoreceptor and the output versus input gray-scale curve, measuring the coverage of developed toners on the photoreceptor, for the 16-level halftones.<>
