  • Abstract
Sponsored by NIST and chaired by HP, and supported by sensor manufacturers and end users, the IEEE 1451.2 standard has been approved and is being published and distributed to the sensor and industrial controls market in the US. It is not another fieldbus but a complimentary interface to various fieldbuses and networks. By examining the common needs of the customer and systems, the various committees on the IEEE 1451 standards groups are working to define a long term solution to system sensor software drivers, physical hardware interfaces, distributed intelligence and distributed sensors. This standard defines from the sensor point of view, the manufacturer, the calibrations, the corrections, the tolerance and the digital interface in an information field attached to the sensor
