  • Abstract
PWM inverters/rectifiers are required in widespread applications such as energy storage power plants, telecommunication systems and electric vehicle propulsion systems. Some of the stringent requirements of these applications can be achieved by high-frequency switching. On the other hand, the use of high switching frequency may degrade the overall system efficiency, what can be alleviated by the utilization of soft-switching techniques. In this paper, it is proposed a generic soft-switching diagram, which can generate topologies for turn-on snubbers, zero voltage transition (ZVT) and zero current and zero voltage transition (ZCZVT) inverters. This approach facilitates the understanding of these techniques by newcomers, as well senior engineers. Therefore, the distinctness of the merits and disadvantages of each soft-switching technique becomes much easier.
