Abstract
Novel architecture for next-generation passive optical network (PON) has been proposed and simulated. The proposed architecture is based on wavelength division multiplexing PON in which orthogonal frequency division multiplexing downstream and On-Off Keying upstream modulation are used in each channel. The key new feature of the proposed approach is source-free single-wavelength upstream transmission. Simulation results verify that both 40Gbit/s downstream and 10Gbit/s upstream data transmission are achieved simultaneously.
