Abstract
This paper introduces an intelligent street lighting system (ISLS) based on wireless sensor networks (WSNs) which uses pyroelectric infrared sensors (PIR) detect pedestrians and vehicles. One goal of our research is to design an optimal proposal of deploying PIR in ISLS. We present a mathematical model for sensing area of PIR, and analyze the factors that affect the sensing area of PIR. An optimal sensor deployment scheme is proposed, taking into account the sensing requirement of community street. The simulation results confirm that the deploying algorithm is feasible in community street.
