Abstract
The full characterisation of the admittance of a two-terminal negative resistance device as a function of r.f. amplitude and frequency is used as the basis for an interactive oscillator design technique. Employing a display of the device characteristics - the "device surface" - and the prototype microwave circuit, the designer can study the device-circuit interaction and select an operating point. The technique also permits the examination of the tuning properties and determination of the noise properties of a device-circuit combination.
