Abstract :
We address the architecture model and the functionality of the GMPLS-enabled exchange point (GMPLS-XP), which is the equivalent of the Internet exchange point (IXP). Considering the importance of the role that the IXPs today have in supporting the global Internet operation, we believe that GMPLS-XP is a necessary building block for future multi-provider heterogeneous transport networks. We model the GMPLS-XP as a sub-network with multi-layer switching capability, which topological representation is used by the interconnected domains to make flexible on-line interconnection decisions. In addition, we propose, embedded in the GMPLS-XP, routing and SLA mediation functionality operating over multi-provider interconnection architecture and supporting policy-based routing.
