Abstract
Spray characteristics of pure diesel fuel, F-T50 fuel (blend of diesel and Fischer-Tropsch diesel with a volume ratio of 1:1) and Fischer-Tropsch diesel were investigated in a constant volume bomb (CVB). Results show that for all the fuels tested, spray angles are initially wide and then decrease rapidly with time. The spray angle of the pure diesel fuel approaches a constant value with the spray injection development, whereas those of the F-T50 fuel and Fischer-Tropsch diesel slightly increase in the later stage of spray injection process. At low ambient pressures and narrow injection pulse width, higher fraction of Fischer-Tropsch diesel in the blend results in increased spray angles and reduced spray tip penetration. However, when the ambient pressure or the injection pulse width is raised to a certain degree, no increase of spray angle is observed with the increase of Fischer-Tropsch diesel fraction in the blend.
