Abstract :
This paper applies model based predictive control (MFC) to the scheduling problem in routers to guarantee QoS in DiffServ architecture. Model predictive control is a form of control in which the current control action is obtained by solving a finite horizon open-loop optimal control problem at each sampling interval. It intrinsically supports constraints handling and smoothens the control action over hard conditions. We used the RLS algorithm to obtain an adaptive auto regressive exogenous (ARX) model, which is used by MPC to guarantee proportional delay. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can be used as a solution for the scheduling problem to guarantee QoS parameters like proportional delay in different traffic loads
