Abstract
In this paper, a relation among the theoretical optimum step size, the error signal, and the input signal is introduced, and based on the relation, a new variable step size least mean square (VSS-LMS) algorithm for adaptive filtering is proposed. The proposed algorithm has less computational complexity and converges faster to a lower steady state error than existing algorithms. Meanwhile, it eliminates much of the shortcoming resulted from changing the step size in the adaptive process. Some computer simulation results are included to support the theoretical analysis of the proposed algorithm.
