Abstract
The future development of outdoor wireless local area network (WLAN) requires a valid and accurate channel model for the effective design of smart wireless systems. The path loss modelling and the path loss exponent calculation has been carried out for the rural outdoor WLAN (2.4GHz) channel based on the propagation loss measurements taken from two south Indian villages. The co-simulation of IEEE 802.11g (WLAN) system is done using the measured channel data by including the channel as a two port "S2P" sub-network using ADS-Ptolemy system simulator. The result shows that the bit error rate is as high as 2E-4 for EbNo of 18 due to the loss occurring because of cluster of mud huts and vegetation present in the rural environment.
