Abstract
Wireless communication in the 60GHz millimeter wave (mm-wave) communications is getting increasing attention as a promising candidate for gigabits per second (Gbps) wireless communication networks. Although multi-Gbps throughput is supported and a very large block of unlicensed spectrum is available worldwide in the 60GHz band, some technical challenges exist towards making 60GHz wireless network a reality. In this paper, 60GHz Wireless Channel Characterizations is introduced at first. Following that, some severe technical challenges are discussed ,which include channel fading, directional transmission and message management for high data throughput, and some important technologies in overcoming these challenges are presented. The standardization and recent experimental investigations are reviewed as well in this paper.
