Abstract :
The P2P TV applications are becoming increasingly popular and packet streams generated by them may soon have significant influence on the traffic observed in the networks of many ISPs. The knowledge about the properties of aggregated P2P TV traffic is therefore important for selecting an appropriate approach to dimensioning the network interfaces. In this paper we present the analysis of self-similarity properties of such traffic and show that they may have a critical impact on network capacity requirements. We also investigate the usefulness of the equivalent bandwidth approach based on the Fractional Brownian Traffic model for dimensioning network links with the aggregated P2P TV traffic.
