Abstract
Nowadays, mobile data traffic including multimedia data are increasing tremendously. However, wireless network has higher bit error rate than wired network, so received data in wireless network are easily corrupted. These corrupted packets lead degradation of network performance by increasing retransmissions and lowering data rate with 802.11. Therefore it might be beneficial not to drop corrupted packets but to accept them and use in application. To check whether they can be used in application layers, we analyzed bit error rate in packets in wireless LAN environments. Also, with estimating the bit error rate we propose to use corrupted packets based on bit error rate. Simulation shows it can improve network performance significantly.
